Funding has been secured this year to send 8 private veterinarians in the NABSnet network to undertake a 3-day Field Workshop over 3 separate training cohorts with Dr Tristan Jubb in Bendigo between September to November 2026.

The course will use sheep as a practical and effective teaching model for cattle disease investigations due to anatomical and pathological similarities, and the abundant case material available around Bendigo.

Participants will gain hands-on experience in the field with the learning objectives covering:

  • Refinement of practical skills in field autopsy and specimen collection.
  • Strengthened understanding of disease investigation frameworks.
  • Practice of humane euthanasia using captive bolts, jabsticks, and other methods.
  • Improved efficiency and safety in equipment use, including knife sharpening.
  • Building confidence in packaging and dispatching diagnostic samples.
  • Building competence in mentoring others in these skills.
